Abstract
We study the pollutants in the environment and useful components in the foods. We use methods of analytical chemistry, biochemistry and toxicology. Typical themes of our study are shown below.
1. A study on the carcinogens in the environment
The various carcinogens are contained in the environment and are remarkable with the relation to cancer which shows an increase tendency in recent years. In order to clear contamination of the carcinogens, we identify the major carcinogens in the atmosphere, surface soil and river water and evaluate their toxicity using bioassays.
2. A study on endocrine disruptors in the environment
It becomes clear endocrine disruptors exist in the environment in recent years. In order to clear the endocrine disruptors in the environment, we evaluate the toxicity of environmental samples by bioassays using yeast transfected with estrogen receptor or aryl hydrocarbon receptor.
3. A study on anti-cancer compounds in the foods
Various useful compounds are contained in the food. In order to clear new types of anti-cancer compounds, we extract components from tea, soybean and cryptomeria and search anti-cancer compounds.
