Research work

Our research interest is to understand the fundamental interactions of light with condensed matters and to clarify the dynamical processes of photo-excited electronic states. An exciton is an electronic excitation wave consisting of an electron-hole pair in a nonmetallic solid. It plays an important role in the optical processes of solids. We have investigated the fine structure of exciton polariton and its relaxation processes in a weak electron-phonon coupling system. We have also developed a new spectroscopic system utilizing synchrotron radiation and laser. In addition, we are investigating the fundamental optical properties of biofunctional molecules, especially those of fluorescent proteins in order to elucidate the main factors modulating the fluorescent quantum efficiency and the relevant intermolecular interaction.
